 | A man's assault of a pig at the Alameda County Fair prompted some strong words from the judge in the Alameda County Superior Court on Stoneridge Drive on Friday.
James Anthony Horn Jr., 22, of Livermore, was charged with public drunkenness after what Judge Hugh Walker described as "molesting a pig or harassing a pig."
The incident occurred at about 8:10 p.m. July 3 at the Fair's livestock barn. A police report says a witness reported Horn began his assault of the pig by throwing a drink at it in an attempt to get a rise from the full-grown Yorkshire pig. Such pigs can weigh up to 700 pounds.
"Other witnesses stated they observed Horn striking the pig with his hand in the head and in the hind quarters as well as pulling on the pig's ears and tail," Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy Clinton Mitry reported.
The report states that Horn "maliciously and intentionally tormented the pig, which caused suffering and unnecessary cruelty to the pig."
The owner "noted several slap hand prints on the pig's butt and back," the report says.
The police report says Horn had a blood alcohol content of .147, nearly twice the legal limit for driving while intoxicated.
Horn was held in the Alameda County Jail from Tuesday night until Friday, when he was released, with another hearing set for July 10. He was also ordered to attend two 12-step meetings per week until then.

Posted by FairGoer, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Jul 9, 2012 at 8:39 am Wow, James your parents must be so proud. We were looking at the goats on the first Tuesday of the Fair when a drunk was trying to let a goat drink from his beer. The goat tried to grab the beer and down to the ground it went. We were in hysterics. That guy had just bought an $8 beer for himself, hadn't taken a sip and it ended up on the ground. And that goat didn't even call him the next day. hahahaha.

Posted by the dogfather, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Jul 9, 2012 at 9:56 am Book him, Danno -- a man who'll do that to a helpless animal will also do that to a helpless relative, friend or child. You don't even have to care about the pig to understand that this young inebriate needs an important life lesson -- denominated in months or more.
Of course, food animals already live abjectly lousy lives, by and large -- assault should be added to misery!
