Police arrest caretaker for the elderly suspected of defrauding her clients

Bookmark and Share
Walnut Creek police arrested a caretaker for the elderly on Saturday who they suspect has been defrauding her clients, police said.

Employees at the Target at 1871 N. Main St. contacted police at around 1 p.m. when two women tried to make a purchase that seemed suspicious.

Police spoke to the women, identified as Dayna Drew, 43, of Walnut Creek and Carmelia Hamilton, and determined that the credit card Drew was using had been stolen from a purse at a grocery store in Alamo.

Drew was on probation for theft from a dependent adult while acting as a caretaker, police said. Hamilton had a warrant for her arrest.

Police arrested both women at the scene, and then searched Drew's residence.

They found financial information police said was stolen from an elderly person Drew cares for in Moraga.

As part of Drew's probation, she is not permitted to be employed as a caretaker, police said.

Police believe that Drew may be acting as a caretaker for others whom she may have stolen from, and are asking potential victims to come
forward to Walnut Creek investigators.

What a couple of low-life pieces of excrement. Thank you for publishing their names that society may be forewarned.
