 | California High School will go toe-to-toe with Walnut Creek's Northgate High in the championship round of the Contra Costa County Mock Trials Competition.
Cal beat Alhambra High in Martinez on Thursday to win the semi-final; the team has won three of its four bouts.
At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the teams will gather in the Bray Courthouse in Martinez, where Cal will prosecute People vs. Woodson, an assault case.
The county champion will advance to the state competition in Riverside in late March.
The schools each began with two teams, one prosecution and one defense. Those two divisions were combined into one team for the advancing schools in the later rounds.
If Cal High wins the county title, it will be the first time the school's team has won since 1996. Miramonte High in Orinda has taken the title for the past nine years. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Larry L, a resident of the San Ramon neighborhood, on Feb 26, 2011 at 10:41 am I'm a parent of a Cal High Mock Trial Team member, and it's great to see some coverage of the Cal High team. Actually, Cal High has been undefeated this year in 5 rounds. Miramonte's had a great run, winning 8 of the past 9 titles (Northgate, the other finalist this year, won in 2007). I think it's Cal High's turn this time. Go Grizzlies!
