|Danville scores on the football field were lopsided Friday night, as the Spartans of De La Salle tromped Monte Vista, 50-15, in the 4A semifinals, while San Ramon Valley High prevailed 59-7 over College Park in the North Coast Section 3A East Bay Region.
The first half of the De La Salle-Monte Vista game was close, but De La Salle came back strong in the second to win the North Coast Section playoff game.
De La Salle quarterback Mike MacGillivray of Alamo, a senior, is one of the nation's top high school quarterbacks in average yards per completion; he was named Sports Illustrated Player of the Week in 2006 and First Team All League Quarterback on Nov. 12 by the Bay Valley Athletic League, among many other honors. MacGillivray plans to play baseball in college, said his mother, Robin, but has not yet decided where.
"He is talking with a number of baseball coaches at a variety of colleges here on the West Coast and will probably make a decision sometime this spring," said Robin MacGillivray.
De La Salle faces California High for the 4A championship, at McAfee Coliseum at 7 p.m. Dec. 8.
San Ramon now advances to the 3A East Bay regional recognition game against Pinole Valley, being played at Dublin High School at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1. The winner goes to the championship at McAfee Coliseum at 3:45 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, to face the winner of Friday night's game for the 3A Redwood Empire Region.
