The Danville Police Department will be taking the Polar Bear Plunge for the third year with Special Olympics Northern California on Feb. 26th at Crissy Field in San Francisco.

With over $70,000 raised so far, the Polar Plunge is not a swim, but a party where participants are encouraged to "dress up in a crazy costume, dip your big toe or your whole body" in the bay's freezing waters.

The Danville PD Divers are comprised of Danville resident and team captain Christy Dodge, a Special Olympics Athlete, Sgt. Shields, Lt. Moule, Officer Alldritt, Chief Simpkins and Sgt. Kevin Daley.

In 2010, the Danville PD divers raised $18,095, making them the top law enforcement team.

Town council members Robert Storer and Newell Arnerich will take the plunge alongside Special Olympic athletes Vicki Van Sickle and Andrew Daley, son of Sgt. Daley/

Andrew, 17, has participated in the Special Olympics for three years and been an active fundraiser for over 10 years. He started his own "Fun Run" fundraiser to help support the Special Olympics, where he has earned many medals in basketball and track.

Los Cerros Middle School and Monte Vista High School have also formed teams to join in on the fun.

Support the Danville PD Divers by joining the team or the "chicken coop" if you do not want to plunge. Visit [www.PolarPlungeSf.com www.PolarPlungeSf.com, and search for Danville PD Divers o make a donation to the Danville PD Divers or register for the plunge.
