Kids' Country is going the distance

| Students in four Kids' Country programs have begun training as a part of the GO FAR program to help fight childhood obesity.
The 10-week program, called Go Out For A Run (Go FAR), combines endurance training and nutrition studies that will culminate at the City of San Ramon's annual Bah Humbug 5K Run and Walk in December. Kids' Country groups at Greenbrook, Sycamore Valley, Walt Disney and Bollinger Canyon elementary schools are participating.
It's the first year that GO FAR has come to Kids' Country and program coordinator Laura Stankovich said she was glad to give a chance to kids who might not respond well to other sports, like soccer or basketball.
On a recent afternoon, about a dozen kids alternated running and walking in the first session of training. At the end, they wrote about their workout in a journal, grading themselves on performance and setting goals.
Another element of the program is to develop strong character traits, self confidence and practice goal setting.

Let's see, maybe they should try eliminating the high-fat, high sugar, and ultra-high carb slop they feed the kids in their charge. The "food" at Kid's Country is something the proprietors should hang their heads in shame about.

They are a group (profit seeking-sham of non profit status)motivated by making money at the hands of your kids. Srvusd makes deals with them which unfair to better groups and individuals more suitable for the job.

Apples, pineapple, hummus, pita chips, peaches, pears, string cheese, spegetti, quesadillas, the list goes on. There's a real desire to go all organic, but it's very expensive.

Great teachers and staff, well run, and they really cared about the kids and did a wonderful job. We were very lucky to have this program in our schools.

But to Maya, I have to ask which K.C. she refers to, because the "healthy snacks" at the Baldwin location are nothing short of atrocious. Peaches, hummus, pears? You must be kidding.

Since, the snacks have been greatly improved and do include such items like hummus, pears, etc. If you have any concerns about the menus please feel free to contact the KC administration and we will be more than happy to assist your needs.

They keep on raising the fees and pocket the profit. The food in Coyote Creek where my kids went is most of the time crackers and cheese. The staff is too lazy to cook for our kids and most of the time my kids came home hungry. What they post on their snack calenders are never given...It is a total eye wash! They involve kids once in a while in these kinds of activities so that they can get more enrollment...MORE MONEY in their top bosses pockets!

I guess it is quick and easy and fattening. If you complain, their is no one to listen to you. The directors behave like CEO's of multi billion dollar companies. Coming from another school district, the kids at KC are only given paper and crayons and left to non interested staff who just sits around looking bored, whereas at other districts, the kids are actually given "enriched classes". Kids country is all "talk" and no "walk".

KC is instigating the Go Far program and hiring a nutritionist to help kids learn to be healthy eaters. You obviously have some other agenda to just complain.
Rebecca & Todd, it is illegal to have a sham non-profit. What proof do you have? What 2 bosses are you referring to?
