| Firefighters expect to have full containment later today of a 375-acre wildfire burning near Mount Diablo State Park in Contra Costa County, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jim Crawford said this morning.
Hundreds of firefighters from Cal Fire and local fire districts, including those from San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, have been battling the blaze since it broke out at about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Curry Canyon Road, southwest of Morgan Territory Road on the east side of Mount Diablo.
Flames initially threatened about six homes and 20 outbuildings, but firefighters were able to protect them.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, which is burning grass, brush and oak woodlands in the remote area.
The fire is burning in thick grass, oak woodland and moderately thick brush, Cal Fire officials said.
Rugged terrain and high temperatures with low humidity over the past few days have made fighting the fire more difficult, but low wind has helped firefighters prevent the blaze from spreading more quickly.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.— Bay City News Service Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.

Posted by Gwen, a member of the Diablo Vista Middle School community, on Aug 25, 2010 at 3:55 pm I hate that Mount Diablo caught fire again. I hope it's not like the one 30 odd years ago. We had lots of Racoons in our yard last night and I don't want anything else coming down the Mount.

Racoones hate the color orange. Can I paint your house orange? That will keep the racoons from making you mad. I like orange.

What a sight! Got a video on my iPhone. Very cool, I don't think he noticed me but still...kind of scary. My 6 old start screaming look daddy, a wolf, a wolf!

Impact, what should we as neighbors expect from this fire. What type of injuries did our brave fire fighters contract. Do we get a follow-up story? Will this impact use of the park?
