Alleged burglars report fake shooting in an attempt to avoid being caught

Police Chief Steve Simpkins has a message for the four suspects arrested Friday, Aug. 20 who tried to get out of burglary charges by phoning in a fake shooting: "Nice try."
Danville police were notified of suspicious activity Friday afternoon where people appeared to be stealing items from a car parked at the Greenbrook Homeowners Association pool at 300 Greenbrook Drive.
Sgt. Phil Wisotsky later found the vehicle containing the four suspects and pulled the car over. During the traffic stop, police dispatch received a call about a shooting taking place in Danville. Police later found the dispatch number on a suspect's cell phone, showing that the false report was an apparent attempt to avoid being arrested.
"That's pretty reckless," Simpkins said.
Officers did respond to the call, he added, but not Wisotsky.
Four suspects, one being a juvenile, were arrested after finding stolen property in the vehicle. Stolen items included an iPad, laptop computer and LCD projector, which were stolen from the vehicle on Greenbrook. Police also turned up other items, including credit cards that were used at area businesses, that were reportedly stolen earlier in the day from another vehicle.
The suspects include Christopher Ramos, 23, of Danville, who was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property, report of a false emergency and conspiracy. He is said to be free on bond. Also arrested was Joey Carroll, 27, of Pittsburg, who was charged with grand theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property. He is reportedly being held on an $80,000 bond. Nicole Berry, 26, of Pittsburg, was charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, forgery, conspiracy and report of a false emergency. She is being held on a $180,000 bond.
An unnamed 17-year-old juvenile was also arrested for receiving stolen property and conspiracy and was released to their parents.

Keep up the good work!

Posted by More drugs, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Aug 23, 2010 at 10:28 pm When I see a desperate Danville young man mixed-up with Pittsburg people stealing from cars, I think drugs, and drug money. When you buy illegal drugs not only are you purchasing illicit substances, but also alowing or bringing rift-raft into town, destroying the culture of our town. I understand that if you are doing drugs, you don't care, but I wanted to let you know that your drug buying and usage has more consequences than just a simple exchange of money for goods. The Ryan Fuch murder was drug related, the shooting early this year on El Pintado in Danville was also drug related. The Greenbrook house busted with guns, knives, brass knuckles was also drug related, growing pot plants in the house. Perhaps the Blackhawk fire was drug related, grow lights and pot plants in the attic? (never heard the conclusion for the cause of fire). Time to get tough on drugs in our community. The warning signs are readily apparent, and all around us.

Enjoy the food at Santa Rita, and/or wherever they send the Pittsburg duo.
