Crime drops in Danville for first half of 2010
Police chief credits pro-active work of department for drop

Crime in Danville is down for the first half of 2010. Police Chief Chris Wenzel said in a report to town council that there were significant decreases in a number of areas, including petty theft from cars, which dropped from 62 in the first half of 2009 to 38 for the same period this year. Grand theft from vehicles dropped from 20 to 14.
Burglary from vehicles -- which require the breaking of a window or the forcing of a lock -- went from 30 to 23 and residential burglaries decreased from 24 to 19.
The number of reports of drug possession dropped by more than 50 percent, from 17 to 8, and reports of vandalism also saw a decline, from 67 down to 36.
Accidents are also reported as down from 2009. In the first half of last year there were 82 reported accidents. In 2010 that number has gone down to 71. Injuries related to the accidents also saw a decline, from 26 to 22. Police also arrested fewer intoxicated drivers with DUI charges down from 37 to 18.
Wenzel is cautiously optimistic about the numbers.
"I just think that we'll see what happens in the next six months," he said, adding factors like the economy and kids out of school for the summer could play a role in crime for the coming months.
Still, Wenzel said he was pleased with the results. He credited the proactive approach his department is taking and work with the public for the decline.
"Officers are out in unmarked vehicles, checking the neighborhoods," he said, adding their efforts are bolstered by a dedicated group of police volunteers.
People keeping an eye out for potential crime is also a factor in the drop, he said.
"We reach out to the Neighborhood Watch groups in Danville, providing them with education and information. This in turn helps us because it gives us that many more eyes and ears in the community," he said.
Wenzel said Danville is a very safe community, with the majority of their cases being property crimes. He asked that residents continue to lock their homes and vehicles and report any suspicious activity to the police.

The reason these two area's of crime are down is because of all the police patrolling...just maybe Danville is a little overloaded with police officers. Danville reminds me of years back when the word was out...drive super careful when passing through Pinole, this was before the freeway) the cop's are manning a speed trap and the judge is holding night court and will let you buy your get out of jail card for $50 bucks, I'm sure today it would be like $500 bucks. Most of the money didn't go into the judges pocket, some went to the Policeman's Annual Ball.
Well that's enough about yesterday...back to today...Hope to hear serious crimes in Danville are on the way down.

What they really mean is that there aren't as many suspicious stops, jaywalkers, and little old ladies being cited for wearing their seatbelts incorrectly.

CCC Narcotics Enforcement Team busted 4 scum bags on Thursday, June 10th on St. Christopher Drive.
The Narcotics squad found four pounds of marijuana, hashish, a Honey Oil converter used to extract concentrated THC out of marijuana, a small amount of cocaine and 20 Ecstasy tablets.
They seized 17 firearms; including handguns, shotguns and assault weapons, brass knuckles, two bulletproof vests and $10,000 in US currency.
Arrested were Bryan Fulgate (32), Andrea Newell (22), Rob Hayes (30), and Brandon Gunn (20).

What do u want from a team of officers who have to deal with the some of the idiots in this town. ITS DANVILLE FOLKS, NOT RICHMOND OR OAKLAND. And when really serious SH*T happens in this town, and trust me it does, they handle it quickly and quietly. Be glad you live in Pleasantville.

So sorry about that, for years this publication was called "Danville Weekly" and it is still listed as such on several website search engines (Google, Yahoo), even your own website lists under news as "Danville Weekly", not sure if I am the one who is "confused"! Really, why don't you address the issue of why important information to the residents of this community are not included in this publication, you are going to comment on my post yet none of the others listed here? What's up with that?
