Advocacy Day in Sacramento

 | Some 270 people traveled to Sacramento today from the San Ramon Valley Unified School District for Advocacy Day, which draws school supporters from throughout the state each year.
The district participated for the 30th straight year for the day, which brings together parents, teachers, school administrators and community leaders to both listen and question state legislators and a cross-section of experts about the current state of education in California.
In addition, there was information regarding education reform and potential budget reform.
"Being involved with the plight of education in California is more critical than ever," said Clara King, Advocacy Day Committee, San Ramon Valley and Las Trampas Creek Councils of PTAs, in an e-mail.
"The Governor's proposed budget contains severe cuts to education and children's services. After last year's cuts, schools no longer have a cushion - further cuts will affect basic classroom programs."
"Our very presence in large numbers influences the process and holds our representatives accountable," she added.

Posted by C. R. Mudgeon, a resident of the Danville neighborhood, on Feb 18, 2010 at 3:42 pm Since the article was dated Wednesday, 2/17, and said that parents, teachers, school administrators, etc. traveled today to Sacramento, am I correct in assuming that there was no school today?
I am also interested in knowing what positions and issues were specifically raised by the attendees from SRVUSD, especially if attendence on the part of teachers and administrators was essentially on "company time" (or taxpayer time, so to speak).
Obviously pleas for more money were high on the list - but was anything said about improving the effectiveness of what is done with the money?
