The Mustangs varsity football team again stampeded their opponents as they beat Berkeley High on Saturday night, 48-19, in the North Coast Section quarterfinals. Monte Vista went into the game with an 8-3 record for the season; Berkeley was 10-1.

Mustang quarterback Brett Nottingham completed four touchdown passes to four different receivers, plus he made a one-yard QB sneak for another touchdown.

Nottingham, who threw for over 3,000 yards last season and will head to UCLA next year, has been key for the offense.

"It's like having another coach out there on the field," Coach Craig Bergman said of Nottingham at the beginning of the season.

The De La Salle Spartans beat Foothill High School, 56-14, on Friday. The match-up between the Spartans and the Mustangs will take place at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, at De La Salle, 1130 Winton Drive off Treat Boulevard in Concord.

The other half of the semifinal draw will see Pittsburg High play Washington High at 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5. Pittsburg beat San Ramon Valley High in the first round Nov. 21.

The NCS championship will be played at Dublin High School, with details still to be announced.
