The cross-town football trophy has returned to Monte Vista High School after quarterback Brett Nottingham came out smoking and never looked back at Friday night's varsity game. The Mustangs prevailed at the San Ramon Valley High stadium, 42-7.

The Mustangs had averaged more than 50 points in their last two games so the Wolves were wary going into the game.

Nottingham, who has committed to UCLA, completed 20 of 27 passes for 327 yards and five touchdowns in front of the sell-out crowd. Dave Wilkerson led the defensive effort for the Mustangs.

SRV quarterback Chris Comes was injured in the second quarter, putting a halt to the Wolves' game plan.

The two Danville teams went into the game, the last of the regular season, tied in the East Bay Athletic League with 6-3 records. The Mustangs continue on to North Coast Section playoffs, facing Heritage High of Brentwood at Monte Vista at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20.

Other EBAL results from last night are:

• Foothill vs. Amador Valley, 31-21
• De La Salle vs. Cal High, 49-10
• Granada vs. Livermore, 28-7

The Wolves won last year, 26-7. The year before that, the Mustangs prevailed, 20-14.
