Fifth-graders at Sycamore Valley Elementary School learned about the art of masters such as Seurat, Monet and Van Gogh while at the same time learning about the value of teamwork and collaboration.

It was all part of the school's 2009 Art project through the Art Docent program at Sycamore Valley. Parent Brigette Pryor, the mastermind behind the art project, said that 120 fifth-graders recreated 12 artworks, which have all been mounted for display in the school's multi-purpose room.

The students were each assigned two squares of their respective painting, which they then reproduced on a larger scale. The students had to work together to be certain the images matched across the squares and meshed with the overall picture. The masterpieces mark the third year that the school has done a large scale project.

Thank goodness for the absolutely wonderful schools we have in Danville. I continue to be inspired by what the kids are exposed to in this school community. All the curriculum is well thought out and executed. I'm very pleased at how well rounded an experience my child is enjoying. Thanks a million to the educators!

I must say that this project was organized and run completely by volunteers. Brigette & Jacqueline you are great!!! Without them (and all of the other Moms & Dads who volunteer as art docents), Sycamore wouldn't have any art. THANK YOU!!!

Yes, I was a volunteer art docent at Sycamore years ago and thought the program, an art history lesson followed by an art project was really professional because the curiculum was provided for the volunteers, but still ,one friday afternoon a month, that's 8 times a year.......
