Students Kelsey Firebaugh and Matt Anderson held a bake sale at Charlotte Wood Middle School during the recent Danville Little League Carnival where they raised more than $500 for their special project - to help out the family of Sgt. Erv Romans who was slain in the line of duty for the Oakland Police Department. They've also sold tickets for a special drawing to take place May 9, for a total last week of $1,200.

Matt, an eighth-grader at Charlotte Wood, and Kelsey, a seventh-grader, are both in Jacquie Fanelli's Leadership Class. She recently assigned a special project called MAD, which stands for Make A Difference, challenging the students to put their best effort forward and make a difference in someone's life.

Kelsey and Matt decided to focus the efforts of their projects on the Romans' family. They asked local merchants for donations and have collected approximately 12 prizes from restaurants, movie theaters, etc., which they plan to give away in a drawing. Tickets are $1 each, and all of their proceeds will go directly to Romans' family. They also want to welcome anyone to partner with them by matching the funds that they raise.

To purchase tickets for the drawing, contact Kelsey Firebaugh at 837-6858 or e-mail shellyfirebaugh@sbcglobal.net.
