The town of Danville is holding a contest on its Facebook page with food, entertainment and other services from local businesses as prizes, from now until July 17.
To enter, Facebook users can go to facebook.com/DanvilleCA or search "Town of Danville" on Facebook and find the post called "Win a Day in Danville." Contestants must first "like" the page to enter.
The grand prize is a day of pampering for two with a three-course dinner, cheese and wine pairings, therapeutic massages, handmade chocolates, a spa treatment, a season pass for Thursday nights at the Village Theatre and a gift certificate for Cottage Jewel.
"The merchants who are participating are longstanding businesses within the community, and they really embody us as a community in terms of the charm that we have," said Jill Bergman, Economic Development Manager.
However, the grand prize isn't the only award available to contestants; those who enter can also win weekly drawings for gift cards to local businesses, such as JuneBug's Bakery, Jolie Salon and Spa, and the Danville Farmers Market.
"The whole goal is to facilitate commerce and have people experience a new community," said Bergman. "It even gives our local residents exposure to new businesses or old businesses they might have forgotten about and really reminds them that we have a vibrant downtown."
Contestants are encouraged to explore the Facebook page to learn about local happenings and see how the town is communicating through social media.
"We have several different generations that all prefer to get media in different forms ... .It's just another avenue for us to be able to get information to the public," said Bergman. "We're new to the social media arena, so that's one of the reasons we're holding the contest we want to share with residents of Danville that we have a different medium out there for them."
For those who prefer to receive news in a more traditional way, Bergman noted the availability of outlets such as the Silver Streak Newsletter, a bi-monthly publication for seniors that includes information about programs and special events.
The first weekly Facebook drawing will be held Wednesday, July 3. For more information on the contest and prizes, visit the Danville Today website. To see the winners each week, visit facebook.com/DanvilleCA.
