It's going to be a busy couple of days for the San Ramon Valley, with the San Ramon Valley High School homecoming and 100th anniversary celebration starting Friday afternoon and the much-anticipated Primo's Run for Education on Sunday. Both events expect to draw in the crowds, but require road closures as well.
The homecoming parade begins at 2:35 p.m. and stretches from the high school parking lot onto Love Lane and down Railroad Avenue to Prospect Avenue before circling back to the school on Hartz Avenue. Police are conducting a "rolling closure" of the streets – opening the street after the parade passes through -- during the 30-minute parade. Questions regarding street closures can be directed to police by calling 314-3700.
Other festivities include an all-class alumni barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. and a fireworks display at 6:55 p.m. Following the barbecue is the football game against California High School.
Sunday's festivities are also school-related as the Primo's Run for Education will bring in funding for San Ramon Valley schools. Organizers say they are expecting a record number of 7,000 runners and walkers in the 5K run and walk and half marathon.
The half marathon begins at 7:15 a.m. at Primo's Pizza on Hartz Avenue and will finish at Iron Horse Middle School in San Ramon. The 5K timed run will start at 8:15 a.m. followed by the fun run and walk at 8:30 a.m. These events will start and finish at Iron Horse Middle School.
The deadline for online race registration is 10 p.m. Friday night. Race day registration is available, but organizers discourage it.
Parking for the 5K runs is limited to Bishop Ranch 1 and Bishop Ranch 15, with the city recommending parking at Bishop Ranch 1 East on Bollinger Canyon Road west of the Iron Horse Trail. Bishop Ranch 15, located on Norris Canyon Road west of Alcosta Boulevard, will be closed from 8 to 9:30 a.m. to all traffic.
Traffic delays should be expected near Iron Horse and Bishop Ranch Business Park. From 6 a.m. to noon, the following streets will be closed: Alcosta southbound between Norris Canyon and Bollinger Canyon; Camino Ramon between Bollinger Canyon Road and Norris Canyon; Bishop Drive between Norris Canyon and Camino Ramon; Norris Canyon between Alcosta and Camino Ramon and Executive Parkway all between 6:00 am and 12 noon.
Employees working in AT&T and other Bishop Ranch facilities are encouraged to park at Bishop Ranch 2 or 11 and walk to their places of employment.
